Compare scope, not only price
The lowest price is not always the best value. When comparing services, ask what is included, what costs extra, and how the business handles changes. This applies to catering, event decor, trades, tutoring, legal work, accounting, photography, travel, and many other services.
A clear quote should describe the service, timing, location, materials, payment terms, and any limits. If two businesses quote very different prices, compare the scope before deciding.
Check communication style
Good communication is part of good service. Notice whether the business answers questions directly, confirms details, and explains next steps. Slow replies can happen, but repeated confusion before booking may create problems later.
For family events and urgent services, written confirmation is especially helpful. Keep a record of the date, time, price, address, and services agreed.
Review photos and examples
Examples of previous work can save time. A caterer can show food presentation, a decorator can show event setups, a mechanic can show shop facilities, and a professional service can show credentials or service material.
Photos should be realistic. Highly polished images are not automatically bad, but real local examples usually give a better sense of what you will receive.
Know when to ask for proof
Some services require licensing, insurance, certification, or professional membership. When it matters, ask politely before booking. A legitimate provider should understand why customers need confidence.
This is especially important for financial, legal, medical, construction, electrical, travel, and childcare-related services. A directory page is a starting point, not a replacement for proper due diligence.
